General marriage information

Who can be married at St. Matthews?

St Matthew’s has an open policy in regards to marriage – anyone desiring to be married in our church may be.
We only ask that you participate in the preparation interviews by the parish and agree to be married according to the rites of the Anglican Church of Australia (this is both a church and a legal requirement).

You do not need to live in the parish area.

You do not need to be a ‘member’ of our church or another. St Matthew’s is well used to conducting marriages where one or both parties to the marriage have an affiliation with Christian churches other than the Anglican Church, are from non-Christian traditions, adherents to other religions, or have ‘no religion’.

Note – At St Matthew’s we have had the great joy and privilege of baptising into the Christian tradition many who have come to us to be married over the years so if you have not been baptised previously, why not consider it now? See the Baptism page for more information.

If you have been previously married and are divorced this will not prevent you being married at St Matthew’s. The re-marriage of divorced persons is possible in an Anglican Church following suitable steps of preparation – and after permission is granted by the Bishop.
